Mobilize With Your Community!

Mobilize With Your Community!

The outcome of the recent election was not what many of us had hoped. It's easy to feel helpless in the face of challenges that seem so overwhelming. Where do you even begin?

Locally, and with small acts.

In December, a small group gathered to process what happened, share resources, and get to know one another. The group decided to continue to meet regularly.

Join your neighbors on Monday, January 6, 2025 for the first of our regular meetings, to begin practical work that will have an impact in Petaluma and neighboring cities as well as in the wider world. Find out about opportunities to volunteer and to take actions like text or phone banking, letter/postcard writing, and rallies. Cheer each other on and keep your spirits up as we head into uncertain times.

Blue Seven

Blue Seven

Blue 7, a group of local jazz musicians, has been together since 2005 with the current core rhythm section consisting of Dave Webster on bass, Ron Masi on keyboard, John Mihalik on guitar, and Jeremy Maggs on drums. The horn section features Travis Thayer on tenor sax and Mark Lightner on trumpet. Henry White makes a soulful and bluesy contribution on harmonica. Other great musicians have sat in with the band for performances, including Peter Welker and Michael Whitwell (now deceased), both on trumpet, Bob Johns (also on trumpet), Stephen Tamborski on guitar, and Steve Della Maggiora (on just about anything!). Last, but perhaps most importantly, Blue 7 had the great fortune to be led by multi-instrumentalist Preston Bailey who, with his musicianship and teaching skills, brought the band to new heights.

The years of playing together have led to a skilled and tight band that brings to life the energy and groove of classic jazz based on the works of John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Horace Silver, Wes Montgomery, Herbie Hancock, and many others. The music, the energy, the vibe are uplifting and might just have you on your feet!

S.R. Laws

S.R. Laws

I approach songwriting with a slow burning passion, thoughts and experience written down in word, melody, and chord progression.

My inspiration comes from the incredible storytelling abilities of artists like John Hiatt, Rodney Crowell, Neil Finn, Chuck Prophet, and Ron Sexsmith. Their music has shaped my own artistic journey.

Growing up in Northern California, I had a unique connection to music from an early age. My father worked as a trash collector, and I would spend hours sifting through bags of discarded 45 records. It was like stumbling upon hidden treasures. Some were covered in dirt and grime, while others were in pristine condition. The anticipation of discovering new sounds was exhilarating, and I couldn't wait to drop the needle and immerse myself in the music.

I embarked on a pilgrimage to Texas with just two suitcases and $500 in my bank account. I wanted to immerse myself in the vibrant music scene and learn from fellow songwriters. Austin, known as the "Live Music Capital of the World," provided me with countless opportunities to grow as an artist. The open-mics and songwriters' nights became my training ground, and I soaked up every moment, listening to others share their stories through music.

These days I stay in Sonoma County, California, I work hard as a touring artist and singer-songwriter for my original rock band The Heartsleeves. I invite you to join me on this musical journey, as I share my songs one person at a time in this vast and unpredictable world we live in.

I am thrilled to announce the release of my latest album, "A.M. Sessions." It's a collection of songs that I am incredibly proud of, crafted with the help of old friends and some new collaborators. I would love to tell you more about it sometime. You can grab a copy at one of my shows or find it online.

Bill Sell and the Hoovers
Feb

Bill Sell and the Hoovers

Bill and Paul met at 17 years of age when Bill answered an ad in Melody Maker for a lead guitarist. It was love at first sight and now after too many years to mention they find themselves thousands of miles from their homeland, still writing and performing songs with the same enthusiasm and energy as ever. Unique observers of everyday life and emotions with an irreverent glare to authority.

The Hoover's latest iteration is a nod to the original Jamaican Sound System which married recorded music with live performance and was the pre-runner to Ska and Reggae. Now a three piece. Bill Sell-guitar and vocals, Paul Whiting-vocals and machine control and James Manning-bass, the music marries Ska and pop in ever evolving ways.

Refreshingly ‘NO COVERS HERE’.
